Mosaics in Spain

Few people have had such an influence upon their home city as Barcelona's favorite son, Antoni Gaudí, did on Barcelona. His unique vision and creativity gave birth to numerous landmark buildings and parks around the city, which themselves became emblems of the city, such as the lizard in the Park Guell and the facade of the Casa Batllo.

Outside of Barcelona this style is also seen in many places – from the streets of Lisbon to the City of Arts and Sciences in Valencia, mosaics have been alive and present in Spain since the Roman times.

Our activity draws on this creative style to make our own “trencadís” or mosaics, literally using broken colored tiles and then rearranging them to make a large mosaics - working as a team of course, to produce something really quite impressive.

Creating the masterpiece..

We divide the group into teams of up to 10 people, and after a brief introduction of the task, then the work begins in earnest.

Each team has a board that is usually around 90cm * 120cm, and is covered with a self-adhesive surface (protected by a plastic sheet that can easily be peeled back to work on). This surface can be drawn on to mark out our artwork

We work with broken tiles – but also with tiles which need to be smashed first, so it gets a bit noisy and a bit chaotic, but it’s great fun!

Each team also receives 1 printed copy of their portion of the artwork which, can be cut if needed with scissors to assist the reproduction process.

The actual creating of the mosaics takes about 1 – 1 ½ hours , followed by the assembling of the complete artwork, and group photos around the masterpiece.

Artwork:

A piece needs to be agreed upon and designed / printed in advance, and time should be allowed

 required for this. The client only needs to approve the chosen piece

Location:

This activity can be performed indoors or outdoors at a venue of your choice

Maximum group size: 1,000 people (Or more, with a suitable venue)

Duration: 2 – 2 ½ hours (we can adjust it somewhat to suit your needs)
