Hendersons

Hendersons is a vegetarian and vegan restaurant in Bruntsfield, Edinburgh, founded and run by Barrie Henderson to continue the family legacy of the original Hanover Street site (opened 1962, closed 2020). The current site opened in October 2021, blending echoes of the original with a refreshed interior and an archway nod to the past. Barrie Henderson worked in many departments from age 14, holds a Masters in Hospitality and helped win Green Family Business of the Year 2018 and Family Business of the Year 2016. The venue offers a wide range of naturally made drinks, cocktails and outside catering for weddings, private dinners and corporate events. Textured walls and detailing project a friendly vibe in a neighbourhood next to Bruntsfield Links. The kitchen makes food entirely from scratch, emphasising locally sourced, seasonal and organic wholefoods and avoiding reliance on meat substitutes. Fermenting vegetables and foraging wild mushrooms inform flavour under head chef Anna, who brings creativity and precision to plant-based cooking. Specialties: original chocolate mousse; lentil lasagne with homemade pasta; classic vegan haggis; wild mushroom risotto; ravioli; seasonal healthy salads.
