Le 4 is a Michelin-recommended gastronomic restaurant in central Mulhouse run by the young couple Tatiana and Lionel since 21 July 2009, and its wine list features bottles from many local vignerons and producers. The team calls the chefs talented and service attentive; the restaurant has been recognised by the Guide Michelin and earned customer accolades including a Certificate of Excellence and strong review scores. For groups and special occasions it can open by arrangement on normally closed days; advance reservations encouraged. The restaurant prides itself on a warm, contemporary setting with a cosy dining room, modern decor and an outdoor terrace for sunny lunches and evening meals, and on the originality of dishes that nod to world flavours while remaining rooted in French culinary tradition. The kitchen blends traditional French technique with spices and products discovered during the owners' travels; dishes are homemade, seasonal and sourced from local producers with emphasis on fresh ingredients of the local terroir. Specialities include terrine of French duck foie gras; pan-seared scallops with watercress sponge and Jerusalem artichoke mousseline; crab cake with wakame salad and avocado espuma; lacquered duck breast with Vietnamese pancake and hoisin; Label Rouge Madagascar prawns with morel risotto and lobster emulsion; and Simmental beef filet with goat potato and hazelnuts.
