Abbaye Royale de Fontevraud

Spanning 13 hectares, the Royal Abbey of Fontevraud is the largest monastic city inherited from the Middle Ages. In the heart of the Loire Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage site, it combines heritage, culture, art of living, and a sense of hospitality.

Founded in 1101 by Robert d'Arbrissel, the Abbey welcomed both men and women, and an Abbess led the entire community as well as the 153 priories spread across France, Spain, and England.
