This private hotel was built in 1767 by Mr Boucheron. After being owned by various bourgeois families, it was transformed into a salt warehouse and then a customs office before becoming a tourist hotel. Today, it is named after one of the royalist generals who led the Vendée uprising during the French Revolution. Although he never actually stayed in this hotel, he was tried there, sentenced to death, and executed in 1794 in the Place d'Armes facing the building, under the eyes of the Republican Commission that had requisitioned the hotel.
