The Punta de Mita is located on the Pacific coast of Mexico, drawing inspiration from the bohemian surf culture that defines the region. The hotel's design reflects a rich blend of cultural and natural influences, including the vibrant colors of Mexico, the blues of the bay and the surrounding coastline, and the traditional patterns of the Huichol, indigenous people of Nayarit. This cultural tapestry is present in the property's villas, public spaces, and dining areas.

The architecture and interiors, developed by ASET/AOMA in collaboration with Mister Important Design and the design team at Starwood, emphasize a contemporary and whimsical style that celebrates both Spanish and indigenous heritage. The hotel features a brilliant blue and green mosaic pathway called Camino Huichol, which extends for over 450 feet and connects various restaurants, shops, and event spaces, culminating in ocean views and sunsets over the Pacific.

Among its distinctive features is Mesa 1, an exclusive restaurant located on a private island within a spring-fed lake. This venue offers a unique dining experience with a seven-course tasting menu served at a table made from reused Parota wood. The hotel also includes multiple dining options, bars, and lively social spaces, all set within landscaped gardens that offer views of mountains, jungle, lake, and ocean.
