À Contre Sens

A Contre Sens, a contemporary creative restaurant on the Presqu’île in Caen, presents "a cuisine of sense." Opened in 2009, awarded a Michelin star in 2012 and received the Médaille du Mérite Agricole; after a temporary closure in 2023 it reopened at 37 Quai François Mitterrand in February 2025. The kitchen blends modern technique with references to local producers and terroir. The dining room offers a warm, generous atmosphere and was renewed. The cuisine is described as a "cuisine in movement" that rests on the chef’s intuition, seasonality and refinement; offerings include à la carte options and special seasonal preparations. Anthony Caillot founded it; his path includes formative years at Le Chabichou (Courchevel), service at L’Elysée and a long tenure at the Royal Barrière de Deauville with mentor Éric Provost. Specialties include duck foie gras from Ferme de la Houssaye; Nage de Lotte et de Saint‑Jacques (monkfish and scallops) with fennel and shiitake; hay‑poached poularde of M. Lavigne with chestnut and vintage vegetables; roasted pigeonneau de l’ami François with pommeau jus; shaved fresh Melanosporum truffle; and multi‑course Intuition tasting menus.
