Bar Le Mal Nécessaire is a cocktail bar located in the International Quarter of Montreal, on Saint-Alexandre Street, nestled between Victoria Square and the Palais des Congrès. After a decade on Boulevard Saint-Laurent, it moved downtown while retaining its original character. The private VIP area, Le Salon, faithfully recreates the ambiance of the original bar, with the bespoke mahogany bar from the former location at 1106B Boulevard Saint-Laurent. The establishment stands out as a vibrant nightlife destination, hosting DJs every evening and offering reservations for private events with options for a full bar purchase and a private room. Its mission is to establish itself as a key reference for nightlife in Montreal and Canada. The cocktail menu features signature and classic drinks infused with fresh exotic fruits, tropical influences, and bold flavours. Notable cocktails include the Painkiller, Piña Fuego, Piña Colada, Champagne Papi, and the eponymous Le Mal Nécessaire. Sustainability is at the heart of the bar's concept, with a zero-waste approach that maximises the use of ingredients, such as recycling every part of the pineapple and coconut into garnishes, syrups, and compost. Collaborations with local producers provide unique ingredients such as avocado pits for falernum syrup and aquafaba in place of egg whites. Catering is available on-site or through the exclusive catering partner, Traiteur Brera. The atmosphere combines dim lighting and strong musical programming to create a lively nightlife setting in the downtown area.
