El Gato is a seafood restaurant located in Chioggia, Italy, that has operated since 1994 and settled in its present location in 2009. The kitchen, led by Chef Daniele Bissacco, specializes in authentic dishes featuring fresh fish, shellfish, and crustaceans sourced daily from the local sea and Venetian lagoon. Preparation relies on brief, delicate cooking techniques like steaming to highlight the natural flavors of the ingredients. Signature offerings include raw seafood platters with scampi, cuttlefish, oysters, clams, octopus, sea bass, and sea bream, alongside traditional regional dishes such as Catalana—a crustacean salad with fresh vegetables and olive oil—and Bollito alla Chioggiotta, an assortment of steamed seafood paired with classic Venetian sea recipes. Desserts showcase house-made meringues, macarons, seasonal sorbets, creamy preparations, gluten- and lactose-free options, and chocolate treats. The family-managed venue accommodates 80 guests across three bright and simply decorated dining rooms. Service, managed by Tiziano and Karen, complements a thoughtfully curated wine list, creating a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere where tradition and local produce are celebrated.
