La Petite Grocery

La Petite Grocery sits in a more-than-century-old building on Magazine Street whose history as a coffee and tea depot, grocery, butcher shop and florist informs its sense of place. The restaurant opens in 2004, rebuilds after Hurricane Katrina and passes to Chef Justin Devillier and his wife Mia in 2010, who maintain the Uptown venue and emphasize Southern hospitality. Devillier, raised in Dana Point, California, moves to New Orleans in 2003, trains under mentors including Anne Kearny-Sands and rises through La Petite Grocery’s ranks, receiving the 2016 James Beard Award for Best Chef: South; the restaurant appears on national best-restaurant lists. An evolving pastry program is led by Pastry Chef Bronwyn Muirhead, and kitchen leadership includes Executive Chef Joseph Tiedmann. The dining room is charming, intimate and timeless, evoking old New Orleans while offering a welcoming, family-run vibe. The space is warm and community-oriented, suitable for casual meals and private events. The menu interprets traditional New Orleans and regional American cooking with contemporary technique.
