Located in a remote Apennine village, Locanda Mariella traces its roots to the mid-1960s when Adriana and Virginio Gennari transformed a family home and local shop into a gathering spot for residents. Over time, it has evolved from a modest trattoria serving zero-kilometer food into a refined venue where tradition meets sustainable gastronomy. Mariella Gennari, the founders’ daughter, infuses the restaurant with global wine expertise gained from travels across Europe, Australia, Chile, and South Africa, while her husband Guido contributes a passion for music and audio fidelity, shaping a unique work philosophy centered on sustainability and limited waste. The intimate venue accommodates up to 15 guests, offering a retro atmosphere accentuated by a large street art mural at the entrance created by Paolo Capezzuoli. This cozy setting underscores the familial and human-scale dining experience that defines Locanda Mariella. Under the direction of Japanese chef Kuni Onuma, the kitchen blends Emilian culinary traditions with Japanese finesse, presenting three tasting menus focused on fish, local land products, and traditional dishes. Specialties include capesanta roasted with dashi-like broth and eggplant, local porcini mushrooms in tempura accompanied by green sauce and prosciutto, and braised pork cheek with red wine paired with potato purée.
