O Javali

O Javali is a family-run traditional restaurant in Bragança, Portugal, established in 2003 by Alberto Gonçalves and his wife Maria do Carmo, who serves as the cook. The restaurant specializes in authentic Transmontana cuisine, focusing on regional game dishes that prominently feature wild boar sourced from the nearby Parque Natural de Montesinho. It prioritizes local agricultural products and native regional meats, offering dishes such as stewed wild boar with chestnuts, wild boar loin, hare rice, and partridge pie, alongside local specialties including veal steak, sausages, lamb, kid goat, and trout. Within Bragança’s historic citadel, the family’s Taberna do Javali presents a more casual setting with a modern touch, emphasizing tapas and cocktails.
