Taverna Rovita

Taverna Rovita is a historic restaurant situated on Via Rovita in Maratea's old town, housed in a restored 18th-century brotherhood and tavern near Piazza Buraglia. Since its restoration in 1981 by owner Francesco Gambardella, it has celebrated maritime and Lucanian culinary traditions. The current chef and sommelier, Mariastella Gambardella, has led the kitchen since 2011, enriching the gastronomic offerings with experiences such as Rovita d’Amare and La Biblioteca del Vino. Guests can choose between two tasting menus, Tràdere and Suggestioni, for an immersive journey through refined regional flavors. The interior features an intimate principal dining room adorned with artistic ceramics, Vietri-style floors, and an 18th-century fireplace, complemented by several smaller rooms nestled within the medieval alleys. An elegant cellar room showcases over 450 wine labels, curated since 1981 for a distinguished selection. The Artgallery space accommodates up to 10 guests, blending art and history for exclusive tastings and events. The cuisine emphasizes natural ingredients highlighting Lucanian and maritime heritage, presenting traditional seafood and regional dishes in refined yet simple styles. Taverna Rovita also offers private cooking lessons and wine tastings, along with consulting services in restaurant management and sommellerie.
