Trident Booksellers and Cafe is a Boston institution on Newbury Street in the Back Bay neighborhood, combining a bookstore and cafe under one roof. The venue offers a private event space that reflects its literary character alongside an industrial aesthetic. The Stacks is a 1,350-square-foot event space accessed through a speakeasy-style entrance concealed behind double bookshelf doors. Inside, an original brick wall and exposed ceiling pipes set a distinctive atmosphere, while a wall of windows brings in natural light during the day and ambient city views in the evening. The space accommodates up to 100 guests standing and can be arranged in a range of configurations including seated dining, cocktail reception, U-shape, theater, or boardroom style — with theater-style seating for up to 92. It is suited to both daytime meetings and evening celebrations. The venue provides in-house catering with American cuisine as well as extensive vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free menu options. A full alcohol license is held until midnight, and promoted or ticketed events are welcome. Arrangements can be made to reserve the entire second floor of the bookstore and cafe for larger or multifaceted events.
