SCALA – Das Turm Restaurant is a fine‑dining venue perched 120 metres above Jena in the JenTower. The house underwent a comprehensive redesign in 2020/2021. Gault&Millau recognised SCALA for Christian Hempfe’s cuisine; Hempfe received distinctions as best gastronome in 2019 and 2020 and later became owner and co‑manager. The beverage programme emphasises regional sourcing, and the house SCALA beer was developed with a local Erfurt brewery using primarily regional, hand‑selected ingredients. SCALA positions itself as a destination for everyday dining and special events. The restaurant occupies the 29th floor with floor‑to‑ceiling windows. Warm colours and timeless forms shape the dining room. Abundant light creates an elegant, relaxed, panorama‑driven atmosphere. Seating is arranged to highlight the view over Jena. SCALA serves contemporary international fine dining in a sharing‑menu format. Dishes are placed in the centre of the table for guests to take from crystal bowls and stone plates, encouraging communal enjoyment and conversation instead of formal individual service. The culinary approach emphasises communal plates, high‑quality ingredients and creative preparations. Matthias Mänz is the restaurant’s Küchenchef and creative lead in the current kitchen. Specialities include lunch Menü, buffets and curated event catering. Guests can book a panoramic breakfast. The house Pilsner, SCALA‑Bier, forms part of the beverage offering.
