Alma Fonda Fina is a contemporary Mexican restaurant in Denver founded by Chef Johnny Curiel to share the beauty of Mexican culture through food. The name translates to "soul" and evokes a humble neighborhood gathering spot; the concept manifests in a family- and tradition-driven menu that pays homage to Curiel’s cultural heritage. Born into a family of chefs in Guadalajara, Curiel began working in his father’s restaurant at age 14 and later undertook a culinary immersion across Mexico, learning techniques from restaurants, street food stands and abuelas’ home kitchens. He cooked with Chef Richard Sandoval’s team across the U.S. and Mexico and worked in Denver kitchens with Chef Troy Guard before launching his solo debut with Alma Fonda Fina. The restaurant emphasizes integrity, tradition and transportive dining experiences that blend age-old techniques with contemporary interpretations, and the kitchen showcases dishes informed by Curiel’s journeys and family influences rather than by a single regional formula. Alma Fonda Fina has been recognized by the Michelin Guide (SELECTED). The restaurant features counter seating and a seasonal patio that is open May 1 through October 1, with the patio offered first-come, first-serve.
