THE CASTLE

At the heart of the estate stands the majestic Castell de Villavecchia, built in 1894 by the renowned architect Enric Sagnier i Villavecchia. From the original wooden structures and round tower to the private chapel featuring works by Frederic Marès, the castle exudes historical charm and quiet grandeur.

Inside, tradition and comfort are thoughtfully combined, making the castle ideal for both shared moments and peaceful reflection.

Ground Floor:

• Music Hall – 70 m²: Elegant entrance hall with piano, lounge seating, and high ceilings

INTERIOR DESIGN AND COMFORT

The castle, originally built in 1849, has been thoughtfully renovated as a holiday retreat and event venue. Original features like woodwork and select furniture have been preserved, while interiors have been modernised for comfort.

Ten of the twelve bedrooms have modern en-suite bathrooms with walk-in showers, and most include a private seating area for reading, private conversation or work.

A high-speed Wi-Fi connection is available throughout all accommodations, ensuring reliable internet access in every room and common area — ideal for work, video calls, or streaming.

The castle has central heating, except in the Music Hall.

THE GUESTHOUSE

Located just 40 metres from the castle, the guesthouse provides independent accommodation for up to 13 guests. It’s especially suitable for extended families, support staff, or smaller groups seeking a bit of privacy during their stay.

OUTDOOR SPACES

Castell de Villavecchia offers a variety of inviting outdoor areas, ideal for weddings, wellness retreats, corporate events, and other group celebrations. Each space has its own character and can be adapted to your needs.

The Pool and Mirador Terrace – 1,242 m²: Located on a lower level in front of the castle, this expansive terrace combines a 15 × 3 m swimming pool with panoramic views of the Montseny mountains. Surrounded by sun loungers and parasols, it’s ideal for relaxed afternoons, summer aperitifs, or outdoor brunches. The space is flexible and well-suited for open-air dining, receptions, or group activities, with guest restrooms conveniently located in a restored dovecote nearby.

The Chapel Garden – 621 m²: Framed by the chapel’s elegant façade, this peaceful garden is ideal for ceremonies, welcome drinks, or group photos.

The Tower Garden – 627 m²: A secluded, shaded space beside the castle’s iconic tower. Perfect for smaller ceremonies, morning yoga, or quiet breakfasts under the trees.

The Forest – 879 m² usable: This natural woodland area is ideal for walking meditations, reflective moments, or relaxed, informal gatherings.

The Forest Path – 389 m²: A narrow, shaded trail lined with old trees — perfect for a peaceful stroll, a quiet conversation, or an intimate outdoor ceremony.

3 Outdoor Dining Tables (35 Chairs) – Flexible setup for group meals, from one long table to smaller arrangements.

GUEST ACCESS AND PRIVACY

Guests have exclusive access to the entire estate and all outdoor areas. These spaces are never shared with other groups or the owners, ensuring full privacy for your retreat or celebration.

CELEBRATIONS, GUEST CAPACITY & PROFESSIONAL USE

We are pleased to accommodate a wide variety of gatherings and retreats with prior agreement.

• Private Celebrations: The estate welcomes events such as weddings, family reunions, and milestone birthdays. Up to 40 additional daytime guests are permitted. Conditions and event fees may apply.
• Corporate & Wellness Retreats: Castell de Villavecchia is a peaceful and inspiring corporate retreat venue near Girona, also perfectly suited to wellness retreats in Catalonia.
• Professional Kitchen Access: Available for use by private chefs and catering teams upon request.
• Guest Capacity: Maximum overnight capacity is 33 guests. Only registered guests may stay overnight. Please inform us in advance if you are expecting daytime visitors.

Surroundings - Tucked away at the end of a private forest lane, the estate is surrounded by the serene woodlands of the Guilleries Natural Park. Set on a private hillside with panoramic views, this 19th-century castle offers total privacy and a peaceful, elegant atmosphere. There is no through traffic and virtually no immediate neighbours, ensuring a secluded environment perfect for relaxation or focused gatherings.

The estate’s expansive grounds, historic architecture, and unspoiled nature provide a striking backdrop for luxury retreats and visual content creation alike.

The Town: Sant Hilari Sacalm - Just 3.5 kilometers from the estate, Sant Hilari Sacalm is a picturesque mountain town at 930 meters altitude, known as “the town of a hundred springs”. Its fresh mountain air, natural springs, and quiet charm make it an ideal local base.

The town features a historic center with traditional Catalan cafés, restaurants, artisan shops, a weekly market, and a wellness spa. A museum dedicated to the natural heritage of Les Guilleries adds a cultural touch to the experience. Though compact, the town has all necessary amenities, including a pharmacy, bakery, and small supermarket.

The Region: Les Guilleries and Girona Province - Nestled in the Les Guilleries mountains, the estate is surrounded by dense forests, hiking trails, and tranquil reservoirs like Sau and Susqueda. The region is known for its biodiversity, dramatic landscapes, and timeless villages.

Charming nearby towns such as Rupit, Osor, Vic, and Vilanova de Sau offer easy day trips filled with Romanesque architecture, local cuisine, and authentic Catalan culture. The historic city of Girona is just 35 kilometers away, offering fine dining, upscale shopping, a vibrant cultural scene, and the renowned Old Town.

For beach lovers or longer excursions, the Costa Brava coastline is about 1.5 hours away. Barcelona, one of Europe’s most vibrant cities, is located approximately 100 kilometers south, making the estate an accessible yet tranquil alternative to the coast or the city.

TRANSPORTATION AND SERVICES

While regional buses serve Sant Hilari Sacalm, we strongly recommend arriving by car to fully enjoy the privacy and flexibility of the area.

• There are 10 to 15 secure parking spaces available on the estate, located behind the main gate for added privacy and safety.
• A charging station for electric vehicles is also available on the estate and can be used upon request for an additional fee.
• Nearest airport: Girona–Costa Brava Airport (35 km, ~30 min by car)
• Barcelona El Prat Airport: ~100 km (~1.5 hours by car)
• Train station: Riudellots de la Selva (~40 min drive) – with connections to Girona & Barcelona
• Car rental: Available at Girona Airport, Barcelona El Prat Airport, and Girona city centre
• Shops & services: Supermarket, bakery, and pharmacy in Sant Hilari; larger commercial centres in Girona

BOOKING CONDICIONS

All guests are required to complete online check-in prior to arrival, as mandated by Catalan law.

A tourist tax of approximately €1 per guest per night applies for the first 7 nights of the stay.

A refundable security deposit is required and will be returned after check-out, provided no damages or rule violations occur.
