La Récréation Gourmande

La Récréation Gourmande is a traditional French restaurant established within the walls of the former village school in Villegenon. The kitchen is led by Michel, a modest, experienced chef whose career includes posts at the Royal Hôtel de Troyes and the Bourbon in Bourges, and he opened the restaurant with Sandrine. The cuisine is traditional yet inventive, rooted in seasonal preparations with a strong respect for the product and the exclusive use of fresh ingredients. The restaurant organises seasonal events, is recognised by the Michelin Guide (Selected), and provides catering/traiteur services and private bookings for banquets. The dining room is fully renovated and decorated with school-themed elements such as geography and anatomical maps, with menus presented on a real school blackboard. A terrace accommodates dining in good weather, and a private parking area serves guests. The room seats a small, intimate number of guests suitable for family meals and local events. The kitchen focuses on traditional French, seasonal and product-driven cooking with homemade dishes prepared from fresh ingredients. Occasional inventive touches draw on Alsatian home cooking and the restaurant highlights set menus and special regional formulas. Specialties include choucroute garnie during seasonal choucroute evenings and bekaoffe, an Alsatian terrine of meats and potatoes; the choucroute menu features kouglof glacé. The kitchen also offers seasonal homemade dishes from fresh produce and a daily set lunch (Menu du jour).
