Abbazia di San Giusto

Abbazia di San Giusto is a recently restored 12th-century Cistercian abbey located in Tuscania, Lazio, Italy. The abbey, founded in 1146, was neglected for over six centuries before being purchased and revived starting in 1990 by Mauro Checcoli and his family. The restoration, which began in 1994, has brought new life to the historic site while preserving its medieval character and architectural integrity.

Today, the abbey functions as an organic farm producing eco-friendly essential oils and serves as a multi-purpose venue designed to welcome travelers, artists, and nature lovers. The setting is a pristine valley surrounded by the River Marta, fields of lavender, olive trees, and unspoiled nature, providing a tranquil and scenic backdrop. The abbey’s halls, including the Chapter House, Scriptorium, Cellarium, Secret Garden, monks’ dormitory, tower, and roof terrace, offer a variety of indoor and outdoor spaces suitable for events year-round.

The venue combines historical authenticity with modern amenities, such as air conditioning and a professional kitchen located where the monks’ kitchen once was. Unique experiences available include cooking classes, horse riding lessons, cheesemaking, and ceramics workshops. Guests can also stay in four apartments or in the medieval tower featuring deluxe rooms and panoramic views. The abbey’s atmosphere reflects a deep respect for its history and natural surroundings, making it a distinctive location for ceremonies, retreats, and creative workshops.
