The Black Swan at Oldstead is a family-owned, Michelin-starred restaurant with rooms, rooted in generations of farming around Oldstead and created by the Banks family. It holds one Michelin star, a Michelin Green Star and four AA Rosettes, and the team expanded with Roots York (2018) and The Abbey Inn (opened May 2023). The house offers immersive packages — two-night stays, foraging and preservation workshops, garden tours and special wine dinners — many of which are limited capacity, and it provides nine luxury bedrooms for combining dining with overnight stays. Stylishly grounded in tradition yet threaded with modern gastronomic creativity, the venue is intimate and rooted in its rural North Yorkshire setting, with a bar and dining rooms and an overall earthy, family‑reflective atmosphere. Cooking is Creative British and firmly land‑based, delivered as a tasting‑menu-led approach using ingredients grown, reared and foraged on the estate. The team cultivates field‑scale crops, two acres of kitchen‑garden beds and maintains a colony of honeybees adjacent to the restaurant. Menus emphasise seasonality and preservation techniques — fermenting, pickling and prolonged ageing — and seafood is no longer featured on the tasting menu. Tommy Banks (Chef). Specialties include a land‑based tasting menu, a Saturday lunch tasting menu, foraged and preserved ingredient dishes, house‑made cocktails and soft drinks, and a Foraging & Preservation Experience.
