Can Xapes

Can Xapes is a restaurant in Cornellà del Terri, Girona, housed in the former Cine Rosa cinema established in 1949. Since its reopening as a contemporary Catalan restaurant, it has preserved original Art Deco details, including the cinema's distinctive bar, now serving craft beer and vermouth. The venue features two private salons that serve as an exhibition space for contemporary gastronomy and art inspired by food. Under the direction of Chef Lluc Quintana, awarded Best Sustainable Chef 2022, Can Xapes focuses on market-driven, seasonal Catalan cuisine. The kitchen blends traditional recipes with modern techniques to highlight fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Signature dishes include grandmother’s fish stew, baked wild sea bass, cod fritters, Barretines, and the traditional dessert Menjar blanc, often presented in seasonal tasting menus. Beyond its culinary offerings, Can Xapes operates as a social enterprise run by Ad’Iniciatives Socials, providing vocational training for disadvantaged youth in a real restaurant environment. Its wine cellar features selections from Catalan cooperatives supporting community and sustainability, merging cultural heritage, ecological responsibility, and professional inclusion in a distinctive dining experience.
