Gasthaus Assenmacher

Gasthaus Assenmacher is a family-run guesthouse and restaurant in Altenahr, presented as a lovingly furnished, relaxed dining spot at the foot of the historic Burgruine Are. The building dates to 1876; Maria and Christian Röder acquired the house in 1928. The business passed to Paula Happe and, from 1983, to Elsbeth and Wolfram Happe, and in 2006 Christian and Christa Storch (geb. Happe) continued and modernized the family operation. After reopening following the Ahrtal flood in May 2022, the property expanded in April 2023 to add a holiday house with five apartments and a small wellness area. The interior is lovingly detailed and casual, free of formal constraints. The setting positions the house as an informal starting point for exploring the Ahrtal. The restaurant serves international cuisine with a focus on regional highlights and holds Michelin: Selected recognition. Service is offered on selected days. Head Chef Christian Storch leads the kitchen. He trained as a cook and holds the Küchenmeister qualification (IHK Rothenburg) with experience in multiple German hotel and restaurant kitchens, and Christa Storch leads the restaurant front and trained as a cook and Küchenmeisterin. Specialties include the Probier mal Ahrtal tasting menu. The aktuelle Speisekarte (March PDF available) presents the menus. Lunch and dinner are served Wednesday–Sunday 12:00–13:30 and 17:30–20:30, and the team asks guests to reserve in advance.
