Poor Hendrix is the realization of a long-time dream by husband-and-wife owners Aaron and Jamie Russell to create an intimate, casual restaurant offering simple but fabulous food and plenty of tasty libations. The restaurant emphasizes community and resilience, presenting a family of dedicated staff and a neighborhood gathering place where patrons and neighbors provide a sense of community. The couple met as teenagers while working in restaurants and, after an inspirational trip to Spain and France in 2013, set about raising funds, writing menus and finding the right location. Aaron Russell built a notable culinary career in Atlanta at Nikolai's Roof, Seeger's, The Dining Room and Restaurant Eugene and gained recognition as a world-class pastry chef with five James Beard nominations and a Rising Star Chef award. The restaurant occupies a quaint, old building at Hosea & 2nd in a vibrant, diverse, up-and-coming neighborhood chosen for its charm and neighborhood fit. Its name and spirit are drawn from the owners' rescue pit-bull, Hendrix, whose story and fighting spirit inform the restaurant's legacy and community-minded character.
