Racine

Racine is a Michelin-recognised restaurant in Reims led by a Japanese chef who calls himself "Chef Kazu." The restaurant's concept is rooted in nature and the ingredients of the Champagne region; it is at 6 Place Godinot and handles tasting menus, reservations and pre-payment via CoverManager and Stripe. The space is intimate and pared-back, opening onto the city and countryside. The visible kitchen is intentionally silent, likened to a silent film, and service is limited to a small number of covers to preserve intimacy. Seating is four tables plus four counter seats; Marine Tanaka welcomes guests and counter diners face the chef and the ballet of cooks. Cuisine marries Japanese precision with French technique, focusing on seasonal produce from the Champagne region. The chef gathers vegetables, fish, meat and game locally, elevating some through transformation and leaving others largely natural to showcase intrinsic flavours. Kazuyuki Tanaka (Chef) traces his culinary passion to childhood, his parents being restaurateurs in Kyushu, Japan.
