Fritton Lake
3 workspaces
Fritton Lake occupies the heart of a thousand-acre nature restoration project on the Norfolk/Suffolk border, embedded within the historic Somerleyton Estate. The estate is defined by unspoilt woodland, lush meadows, and a two-mile-long natural lake that forms both the visual centrepiece and the engine of daily life here. Access is intentionally exclusive — the club is open only to cabin owners, members, and holiday guests — creating an atmosphere that feels genuinely curated and unhurried. The estate has been recognised by the Sunday Times Travel Magazine, The Telegraph, Grazia, and National Geographic, with writers consistently noting its rare ability to combine deep immersion in nature with townhouse-level interior quality. Accommodation spans five distinct styles, each designed to suit a different relationship with the landscape. Design-led Koto cabins and traditional woodland cabins sit tucked away in secluded forest settings, described by the Sunday Times as having 'townhouse level interiors and hot tubs.' Boutique hotel rooms within the clubhouse building offer a more conventional hotel experience while still placing guests steps from the lake. Standard cabins provide a more straightforward woodland stay, while traditional farm cottages give guests a rural, estate-style retreat. All options share a commitment to high-quality, design-conscious interiors. The two-mile lake drives a full programme of water-based activities: standup paddleboarding, wild swimming, kayaking, canoeing, and a floating sauna moored on the water. On land, guests have access to heated outdoor swimming pools, both grass and clay tennis courts, instructor-led yoga sessions, running trails, and children's adventure play areas. A BioGym rounds out the on-site fitness offering. The estate also serves as the backdrop for nature-watching walks through rewilded meadows and woodland, with birdsong, seasonal blossom, and wildlife encounters forming part of the everyday rhythm. Dining centres on the clubhouse, where expertly prepared meals are made from carefully selected, locally sourced produce. For guests who prefer to eat at their accommodation, a high-quality hamper delivery service brings fresh food directly to cabins and cottages. The club shop Valentine & Silver, located next to the BioGym, is open seven days a week from 9am to 5pm and stocks locally sourced gifts, homeware, cosmetic products, deli food, and drinks — functioning as a daily convenience and destination in its own right. Fritton Lake is also positioned as a venue for hosted retreats, with a dedicated retreat programme available for group bookings. The estate's founding family continues to play an active role in its cultural life: the podcast 'Wild Kingdom and The Map of Dreams', hosted by Hugh Somerleyton, founder of the wildlife charity WildEast, reflects the estate's deep commitment to rewilding and nature storytelling. Gift cards are available for those wishing to share the experience.
