The Chick

The Chick is an independent, self-styled fine-dining restaurant and part of the Taste M trio with The Cellar and The Chapel. The concept grew from a friendship between Elsje, Mehdi, Anneke and Wim and evolved from a rotisserie into an ambition-driven venue since 2019. A youthful, intergenerational kitchen is led by Margot and Taha; the team works under the motto "Made with love, made to love," and the restaurant has been selected by the Michelin Guide for modern cuisine. The dining room is intimate and contemporary, set beneath the Sint-Romboutskathedraal in the heart of Mechelen. The venue blends a winebar/speakeasy vibe with an event-capable design and belongs to a complex that includes an underground wine cellar and a historic chapel. The team delivers warm, passionate service suited to private dinners and special events. Cuisine follows modern fine-dining principles, combining strong local sourcing with influences from Tokyo, Paris, Lima and Lebanon. The kitchen applies both traditional and contemporary techniques and highlights producers from a farm in Leest to a nearby artisan baker. The fixed tasting menu is reinvented every six weeks under the #6weeksmakeover. Specialities comprise a chef’s-choice surprise tasting menu offered in four or five courses with an optional Signature Dish add-on. The menu is paired via a wine programme (#fromtheunderground) sourced through The Cellar Shop and complemented by cellar-matured cheeses by Schockaert.
